We needed to arrange transport between Washington DC and NYC for next year. We had considered the Amtrak train but I decided to look at an internal flight as well using miles. I found:

American Airlines DCA-LGA for 2 adults in Economy...

9000 Avios and £7 tax. Just £7 tax! And that's for both of us. £3.50 each.

Now admitedly that is just a short 90 minute flight and each passenger has to pay for hold luggage ($25 for the first bag and £35 for the second), unless you have One World staus ( :D ). But I was surprised at the low cost.

No wonder the Americans complain about our Frequent Flyer reward schemes!

Needless to say I booked it.

I think "hand-baggage only" is the norm on USA domestic tickets, but may take some Europeans by surprise if they do not read the small print before booking.

But very happy with that deal. Last 2 reward seats too

They're brilliant aren't they - we did a First class redemption on Delta (SFO-JFK) earlier this year which cost the same in cash - just $10 for the two of us. If only it was as cheap on VS...

Congratulations on the bargain. :-D

Quite OT ... I've just realised you posted the original hiljil query exactly a year before my flight ! How's that for a coincidence !!! ;-)

I doubt I shall ever get such an airfare bargain again. And it will be nice to see LaGuardia again, not been through there for many years

If you're an Amex platinum holder their Centurion lounge is well worth a look at LGA. Great breakfast and a lot nicer than the rest of the airport.

"Nice to see LaGuardia" - well IMO it's nice to arrive at an airport you can leave very quickly!

Good deal though.

The cash parts of rewards are a much better deal!

We flew JFK-LHR the other week with a friend, having spend around £470 each for the return award in Upper for us, our friend paid just $5 for the one way award flight using Delta miles!
