We did have first class seats! One of the cabin crew was saying they were operating it as a three class flight, I can't help but wonder why that happens, and how often. Is it because nobody bought first class at all, which would be a surorise


No - on some routes BA just doesn't offer F because there isn't the demand for it.

Those routes are normally operated by 777s and 787s that don't have an F cabin but, as you were lucky enough to discover, occasionally a 4-class aircraft is substituted on to them in which case the F cabin is used as an extension to CW if required.
