Per the latest Head For Points email, BA are doing Gatwick to Oakland for £994 return in ClubWorld for certain dates in January and February 2018. Given that's only a few quid more than BA wanted for a one way upgrade to CW on my return from Mumbai it looks like a bargain whichever way you slice it.
