So the last time I was in Disney World was about 11 years ago. But I am going this weekend. I hope you all can help me.

I have a 12:30 PM flight from MCO to connect to my 6:40 PM to Madrid. I might be able to take the 1:30 PM flight also (rather as I could shower post race). Is it still possible to do the marathon? I would drive to the start in the rental car.

Timeline
6:00 AM Start
6:10 AM Real Start
10:30 AM Finish (four hour ish marathon, course looks flat)
10:40 AM Depart Epcot lot
11:15 AM Arrive MCO.
12:30 PM Flight
Make flight?

I have not been to Orlando in years and look forward to this upcoming weekend. BUT I really nervous about making my flight. It all looks doable but really value other inputs.

I have flown from MCO on many occassions and IMHO you are pushing it.

The TSA staff are very thorough and you could get delayed going through security. Also, you only need a small delay on the I4 or Beachline Expressway (528) and you wouldn't stand a chance of making your flight.

Good luck though.[:D]

Only been once when the marathon has been on, but many many roads are closed and the traffic in and around Disney is horrendous.

I am sure it took us around an hour and a half to do a journey that usually took 15 mins from Wilderness Lodge to Downtown Disney(which is right past Epcot)

The theory is good, the practice might be another matter [:(]

I think trying to get on the 12.30 flight is probably unrealistic and that whilst the 1.30 is more probable there are lots of variables as raised already and will IMHO be tight.Getting out of the car park may well take more than 10 minutes .The traffic will be horrid -got a sat nav? Are you taking the rental car back to MCO -if so, on site renter makes drop off easy but if it's an off-site rental it adds more time.Who are you using to connect? Will you have fastrack and priority check in? MCO is always busy with long lines for security and the TSA are thorough there - our journey through there in November was pretty speedy until the TSA pulled me for secondary screening.
Any chance of running a faster time?
Good luck.

Sorry for the ever so delayed response. How did you get on with the marathon? Did you make your flight?

I did the Goofy this year. I did not find the traffic a problem despite the road closures.

Ouch. Personally I think it will be too tight. Can you not get a later flight?

Thanks,
Sarah

I'll be doing the Goofy Challenge (half marathon on Sat, full marathon the following day plus I'm going to do the kids 5km on the Friday for the hell of it) in Jan 2010 but I'm making sure I've got around a week in order to catch my return flight ;)

WOW! Thats awesome!!!
I really want to do a Disney race but even a half marathon is out of my league. The most I've ever run is 10km and that took me [:I] 1 hour 15 mins [:I]
I was thinking about training for the 13k TOT race but seeing as I train in an air conditioned gym all the time and hate road running I'm not sure how I would cope LOL.
ANYWAY'S good luck for all your races in 2010 [y]
