Site problems

Since the site moved to it's new format I've had significant problems.
Viewing posts can now be an ordeal as often the type will stretchover 3 or 4 inches before eventually rectifying itself and when I scroll down there will often be a significant delay and then a boinging effect which is infuriating :(! . I've also had difficulty posting - my EK trip remains unfinished as it was zapped into the ether.
The problems only manifest themselves on this site- other siites I'm a member on are unaffected. Anybody any ideas that could help (remembering I'm much worse than HL in her self- confessed numpty status)?
Thanks
DL

If I'm doing a long post on any site, I will write it in Word then copy paste.
Too many occasions when the net zaps it all into the ether!

Bill - I do the same. Helps with the spell checking and lay out too!

DL - what browser are you using?

I get the feeling that all the site maintainers don't use IE which is a bit of a shame as I'm guessing most people logging in through the day will be using work PCs.

I get the same as what DL describes - no big deal but as it's been raised thought I'd contribute :-)

In a nutshell, for me the annoying this is that often when I go to a page I immediately want to scroll down but a second or two into scrolling down the page re-renders and bounces back to the top! It's like there's a delay of a few seconds everytime I visit a new page.

Cheers
James

I use Safari on a Mac to view this site and I get log-in problems and a few bits not working as they should so it's not just limited to PC's.

I've been getting the same problem using IE.

I have now opened the site using Google's Chrome browser and the problem seems to have gone away.

I haven't had these problems with Safari on my MacBook but these last few days I have been knocked off the site two or three times.

The potential cause of these problems is that there are maybe just too many features on the site, and that's causing loading problems on older machines and certain configurations of browsers.

The obvious thing to cull would be the live chat - how many people are actually using it, and is it of use?

I must confess that, although I used it when it first came in, I tend to use Facebook for chat.

I know a lot of V-Flyers are on facebook - maybe guide people towards the V-Flyer group over there?

Just a thought.

Didn't you suggest that as an option just after thye revamped site opened up when people had similar issues? I shut chat off then and never used it so won't miss it if you decide to get rid.

I've only used it sporadically and the person I was chatting to and I agreed that Facebook was better and in fact morphed there to continue our conversation. It wouldn't worry me if it went

Apart from using it a bit when testing the site, I have probably only used it once since it launched, so no issue to remove the live chat here, if it is going to help solve some of the issues people are having.

I use yahoo to chat if I'm online so never use FB or forum chat windows. (Think I've switched it off it here and on FB)

The footer chat bar has been temporarily disabled to see if speed improvements outweigh functionality. Please post your experiences so I can make an informed decision as to whether to turn it back on again or not.

Hi Pete

Not sure if it's just me but all of the footer icons have dissappeared for me as well as the chat/who's online box.

It't all part of the same javascript - you can't have one without the other, I'm afraid.

For me yes there is an instant improvement. I go straight to a page and it loads instantly and I can scroll straight away without it darting by itself back up to the top :-)

No difference for me - still have the 2 second delay before I can scroll down the page. I'm guessing there's just a lot of JS for IE8. Looking forward to IE9 as it's supposed to be PDQ.

Have a look at the graph on this page here
