You may also still have a local cache of the page, or an ISP cache. Probably worth giving it 24 hours before final judgement on any speed improvement.

For me, in Safari, the lack of the footer bar does feel faster.

Not sure whether this is related or not, but from this a.m. when I;

- first access the site I am logged out
- log in I get an "invalid token" message
- then hit the browser (IE7) back button I am logged in

Yes, I'm getting the same here this morning as well. Using Safari 5.0 for Windows here.

Thanks Pete.
Much better for me too- the stretching of text and "boinging" effect has stopped. There is still a bit of a time lag when scrolling through posts though.

Pete,

With the removal of the whole of the bottom bar, how are we notified of PM's now then? Is it just via email/checking manually, as the little envelope with the red number in the bottom bar was how I was always aware.

Any chance of the electronic roar that used to happen when a pm was received coming back?

I'll look into writing some kind of alternative PM notification

This has been sorted. :)

Yup - probably should have mentioned it, but beat the Invalid Token problem with a very large stick, and hopefully it won't be back ;-)

Working on an alternative toolbar and/or PM notification system now.

You may notice a couple of odd page errors this morning while I'm tweaking the site code. Normal service will return asap...

Now added a new version of the bottom toolbar that doesn't rely on the chat code (so none of that overhead), plus also can be collapsed if you want it out of the way.

I can't view photos! It comes up with the loading graphic but does nothing...
Thought I would try and be helpful and let you know.

Yes, I see what you mean. I suspect it's a knock-on effect of the new version of the toolbar. That's the problem with software, you fix one thing only to discover it doesn't play nice with another part of the code.

I'll look into it and try and find a fix.

Ok, photos fixed. It was an incompatibility with the new footer bar, so the simple solution was to turn off the footer bar on gallery pages.

Not noticed that particularly, but;

- I see a footer bar is back
- I am unable to update my status

As Private Eye would possibly say, are these two perchance related? :D

Yes, Pete has created a new footer bar which doesn't use the chat code, so won't cause the problems like before. The footer bar can also be collapsed if you don't want it, but it is used to notify when a PM is received.
