It would be good to have a section were we could follow the progress of the A380. With a section to submit ideas on what features and services would be good to see on board. You never know Virgin's cabin service team and cabin design team might check in on it a implement some of the ideas.

Hmmm... Interesting idea.

Apart from the cabin suggestions bit, what sort of things would that page/section need?

Looking a LONG way into the future. As it gets nearer to becoming a reality and rumours of completion dates and routes start to circulate, it would be nice if they were all in one section of the site.

I think all the main hub airports that really matter to the A380 project (LHR/JFK/SYD/LAX etc) are going to be ok with the plane's size?

If I'm wrong in my thinking, could someone correct me? :)

Well, yes and no. BAA Heathrow is spending £400m over the next five years to cope with the impact. All those extra passengers will need bigger check-in, security, gate and baggage reclaim areas. On the tarmac the stands will have to be bigger and re-inforced for the weight. At Heathrow a £56m project is underway to widen the taxi ways as the A380 wing span is 15m wider than a 747. The project is due for completion by the end of 2006 but the first A380 is due at Heathrow in the spring of 2006!

Thanks for that Jon :)

Does anyone havev any info regarding the JFK / LAX / SYD (and EWR?) attitudes towards the A380? Are those airports going to be ready?

TJ

The following link may be helpful:

http://www.airbus.com/pdf/a380/a380airport_compat.pdf

But take it with caution as it is the manufacturers "spin". There is a lot of debate in the US over who should pay for the upgrades - the passenger/Port Authorities(read tax payer)/manufacturers. Who knows, but the major airport will have to be ready by the end of 2007 to maintain their positions.
