When I got to the check in desk it was 21:30 and our flight was scheduled for 22:30, I have never checked in so late for a long haul flight! At the desks only one desk was open, and they were dealing with a large group of people with lots of luggage, I was waiting on my own and the lady behind the assistance desk asked if I was hand luggage only, and called me forward when I stated that I was. While she was checking me in, I informed her that the other two on the booking were waiting for our luggage from our delayed US flight and would be here as soon as they could be. She replied stating that check in was closing and that they wont make it, but after a few moments once she had located my booking she questioned if the other two were in First as well, and when I told her they were she put on a slight grin, but said nothing.

Once checked in I made my way to security, where the priority queue placed me ahead of around 5 people. The TSA agents were actually quite friendly and were smiling while asking if you had anything in pockets etc. After security I made my way to the lounge, going past the Virgin flight that was boarding, it was a struggle to get past all the people and into the lifts.

I was soon greeted into the lounge and directed right, into the First class section and given a dining voucher. In the lounge I found a seat, grabbed a drink and tried to relax while sending a text to the other two letting them know I was in the lounge.

About 15 minutes later I could here the other two and I knew I wouldn’t be flying home alone! I felt so relieved! The very friendly server from the dining area asked if we would like to have something to eat and assured us that we had time to do so. I wasn’t feeling too hungry so I only had the summer fruit crumble and ice-cream and it was very tasty. While we were eating a few people started to pack up and leave, but the lady at the entrance sent them back and made an announcement that boarding would be delayed so we all had time for another drink & she would let us know when boarding had started.

Once the boarding announcement had been made the lounge emptied and everyone was trying to go up in one lift, but we managed to get up in the other lift that no-one seemed to want to go in!

Priority boarding was in place and once on-board we were escorted to our seats and wished a good flight. Soon drinks were offered along with pyjamas, amenity kits and slippers. The crew weren’t the best crew I have come across but I would say that they were better and more engaging/smiling that the VS crew on our way out. Departure was only 18 minutes late in the end.

This being a night flight there isn’t a lot to say about it really! Once in the air I didn’t have dinner but I did have a warmed up cookie, and it was absolutely wonderful! I watched a bit of a film and got some sleep. I find the BA First bed to very easy to sleep in and this flight was no exception.

Once awake and about 45 minutes out of London, breakfast was offered but declined – as we had planned to eat in the arrivals lounge. Then it was the normal ’40 minutes to landing’ get yourself ready message from the cockpit, and finally the ’20 minutes to landing’ message and the seatbelt signs came on with the crew clearing the cabin.

We actually arrived at the gate slightly ahead of schedule, 10:01 instead of 10:05! But we had parked at a coaching gateL, although the bus did seem to be quicker than the walk and train from T5B. The e-Passports line at immigration was empty and we were through straight away, heading of to baggage claim. After a short wait our bags were some of the first bags out and we were off to the arrivals lounge.

After checking our bag in at the luggage desk, we headed into the Concorde Breakfast Room, where we had to move two tables together to make a table for more than 2! Breakfast order taken, and soon delivered. The food was good and we didn’t spend long so we could head off home, skipping any treatment at the spa.

Overall this was a good flight, and while the crew weren’t fantastic, it’s less noticeable on a night flight. I am pleased we flew home in First rather than business on BA or VS just for the much more comfortable bed (and the cookie!).
