How are you logged in ?

Does this user account have administration rights ?

What happens when you right click on the desktop and try and create a shorcut ?

A member is asking fellow members for a bit of help. Nothing wrong with that.

If it's the wrong forum, the mods will shift it.

It's still a technology question therefore in the most appropriate forum. Although the forum is called Travel Technology, I think you'll find there are lots of threads in this particular forum not travel related. [:)]

As the two members above posted, VF is a little bit different from most forums, we try to act a little like a close knit family, if someone has a question we find the answer for it.

As we do not have a tech forum on here this is the closest that will be found. As DA points out, if you do a little searching you will find plenty of similar questions, but just to make life easy, this happens to be my laptop that is playing up and I do travel with it, there you go travel tech covered [:p]

Admin still has all rights, but then tells me it does not when I try to install a program.

Just one of those things in the end, not to worried, but I wondered if anyone else had come across this.

Try creating another admin profile, switch to it and see if you get the same issues. I suspect something in the account has become corrupt.

If only we had an Windows insider... [:p]

That's a suggestion I was going to make.

The other thing to do is to have a complete virus and malware sweep.

Also check whether any changes have occurred to disk and directory level permissions (right click properties, security tab). Can't remember but I think XP has a reset option?

Has it been working recently? If so why not 'system restore' to an earlier date - always worked for me during my Windows days!

No, this is something that has been going on for a while, I just couldn't be bothered to deal with it before [ii]
