I use a free one call iAntivirus (no points for originality) and it works ok.

Whats its doing exactly that is strange?

I dont want to see another Mac/PC debate here. I dont use any from of AV on UNIX machines as while I am aware that there are security holes I don't believe that I am at any great threat of a virus.

If the Mac isnt starting up properly you could look at Disk Utility: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417

Dont forget to look at simple things like clearing out the cookies and browser cache too.

Thanks,
Sarah

Thanks highflyer, I am still a novice with Apple, its just not closing stuff down and takes an age all of a sudden to shut down or it just doesn't, seems to be Mail that wont respond and take forever to load.

Last night on this site it took 15 minutes to load a pm with that little rainbow circle spinning and nothing else doing.
