Its driving me nuts, every time I try look at something new o listen to something I get the never ending rainbow wheel of tedium, eventually I get bored and hit the force quit and get the Safari not responding, or firefox or anything.

I have tried the Onyx thing and it hasn't helped, sees its new webpages or anything to do with sound or video and its straight to the wheel.

any clues because this less than 12 month old macbook is on its way to the dustbin and any dreams of a macbook aire are quickly fading.

I had the same problem with my MacBook Pro for a while.. It comes down to it 'forgetting' to speed the fan up when it gets hot, then it overheats, then you get the spinning wheel thing..

I tried everything (trying a different browser, reinstalling the OS, even trying different ram and hard disk). In the end a reset of the 'PRAM' and 'SMC' did it.

You can reset the PRAM by following the instructions here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
and the SMC from here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411

If that doesn't fix it, you'll need a trip to the Apple store for a 'Genius' appointment. I've always found them very helpful.

The Genius Bar have been very helpful to me, particularly when out of warranty. I'll not buy a non-Apple laptop ever again.
Their in-store service is excellent.

If you are getting lots of beach balls, check to make sure you have plenty of disk space available, that your permissions and disk utility have run clear.
