I am off to Florida on Friday and am thinking of treating myself to my first i pad :D

I just wondered what the availability was like now in Florida for the 3 in the apple stores ?| I don't live near one so it wont be easy to get in line first thing in the morning.

Thanks

Hi, I bought one two weeks ago at the Florida Mall and had no problem. It was 5/6 o'clock in the afternoon and they had every model available. Enjoy the sun.

Apple Stores do seem to be keeping on top of the new iPad stock levels so far this time round so you should be OK.

Not sure about US Apple stores, but with UK stores, you can reserve iPads or iPhones the evening before from 21:00 via the Apple website. You just reserve online then pay when you pick up in the store.

Thanks. That's really helpful and hopeful :D

I know I can get them elsewhere but I want advice and help so prefer to get one from Apple.

I was thinking about trying to pick up a new Ipad when I head to NYC in 5 weeks time, though, having a look at the apple USA Store, the 16gb Ipad starting price is like $499, once sales tax is added comes in at about $543, so with current exchange rates, that's about £350, Dixons at Gatwick had this for £382, so not really a great saving buying one in the USA in my opinion.

Picked up an iPad 3 in Las Vegas with no problem. Was told in the San Francisco store that they had stock too.

That is really true. I was offered that price by Best Buy at the Florida Mall a couple of days after the new i-pad came out, although I would question if that price was for an i-pad 3 but the guy could see my unsure look and told me it was, :? With the exchange rate etc I also didn't think it was worth it.

I did pick up an i-pod for my grandchild but was really gutted when I saw it at MCO in the Best Buy kiosk, without sales tax added ii)

One lives and learn, wish I'd have waited, coz again the price was not much different to what you'd pay uk.

Thanks for that extra information perhaps I will wait until I get home as I don't need it out here on this trip.

A decision needs to be made :?

Funny I was just looking into buying an iPad3 on my soon to be California travels.

Assuming an 8% sales tax and the current exchange rate of $1.6 on credit card, I worked out the wifi only 16Gb to be £337 and 32Gb to be £404. That is a saving of £62 and £75 respectively over Apple UK. Looks like good savings to me?

If you buy in the USA what kind of warranty is there?

You get the standard (excellent) Apple 1 year Worldwide warranty.

If you have a problem, just walk into an Apple store anywhere, here or US and they will fix it in the Genius bar or replace.

When I was in the USA at the beginning of the month, I thought the potential savings on the 4G models were very good, particularly the more expensive ones.

Remember though that the UK doesn't have any commercial '4G' networks yet and even when we do (which will probably be from 2013 onwards), the current iPad will not work on the 4G network system proposed here or in pretty much the rest of the world because the network bands in which 4G operates in the US are different.

The 3G will work OK though (as long as you buy the AT&T GSM version) as the Verizon 3G version won't work at all here!!!!
