Ex EU flights or Eurostar positioning via Brussels
Posted: 07 Apr 2017, 08:35In case anyone is planning an ex EU itinerary involving Belgium please be aware that there are more stringent border checks for travellers leaving the Schengen area e.g. flying out of BRU or Charleroi to London, taking Eurostar to London or even ferry crossings from Ostend & Zeebrugge to the UK.
You should allow extra time, especially in the early days of this, as they will now be checking identity documents (e.g. passports) even more thoroughly AND they will be separately checking against law enforcement databases. Belgian TV such as VRT have already reported longer queues at BRU for flights out of the Schengen area.
