Random date handwritten on boarding passes at SFO

At SFO the other day after checking in, we noticed there was (seemingly) a random date handwritten on our BCs - I think mine was 'Jan 17' and my partner's was different.

Purely out of geeky curiosity, anyone know what these were?

thanks!

Passport expiry date?

Shows they have checked your passport as part of checking in process.

Yea I think Tonty is right as when I went through SFO the other week they wrote the expiry date of my passport on the boarding pass

Just checked by BPs from my flights to Boston - Nothing written on them for any of the 4 segments so is this specific to VS or SFO?

Have noticed that different airports do different things from checking (but writing nothing) to writing codes and in one case using a highlighter to mark off my name.

Aha, was indeed passport expiry date (was written on main bit of BP).

Inner geek now satisfied!

Cheers :)
