Tracked the Thomson 787 yesterday on route to BGI. Went more or less straight to 43.000ft and stayed there until final descent. Cabin pressure is advertised to be higher on these than earlier A/C, and obviously outside air pressure drops with altitude, so pressure differential is quite a bit more that older A/C.
They obviously test this, but I wonder how many cycles .... Perhaps another good reason for VA to hold off .......

Do VA have the 787 / 8 on order or is the the 787 / 9 they have on order? I suppose either way if they are made the same the same questions come up.

They have the 787-9 on order.

15x of them to replace the remaining A340-600's I believe.

Allegedly orders for 16 x 787-9's for delivery Sept 2014. The original order for A380's placed in 2000 for delivery 2006 has been shelved until 2018. Plenty of time for the dust to settle then . at least I'm not the only one downsizing.
