I imagine this has come up a thousand times but I couldn't turn anything up in a quick search for 'seat preview' - sorry!

Anyway: looking to book a flight to LAX or SFO on either VA or BA but it seems impossible to see what seats are available prior to booking with VA. I know seat location doesn't matter to some but it does to us and will play a critical part in our choice of carrier. Sooo... anyone know if there's a way to do it?

Thanks :-D

Yes there is :)

After choosing your flights on the VS website - proceed through the booking and enter your name and personal details. At step three where you enter you card details, there is a "Choose your seat" option at the top to get a previous of the seat map.

The other thing I've used is ExpertFlyer ($5/month) which lets you retrieve seat maps for any flight, e.g.

Or the seatalerts app, which is powered by Expertflyer and is free (though it limits you to 4 or 5 searches a day I think).
