I was on an A346 last month and it was absolutely fine. Actually prefer the bar on A346.

This has now been extended until the end of Feb 2018 affecting both the VS46/46 and the VS103/104 flights:

VS 45 (DL 4372) 01 January 2018 to 28 February 2018 LHR>JFK becomes the DL 173 (VS codeshare VS 5305)
VS 46 (DL 4375) 01 January 2018 to 28 February 2018 JFK>LHR becomes the DL 172 (VS codeshare VS 5405)

VS103 (DL 4364) 01 January 2018 to 28 February 2018 LHR>ATL becomes the DL 285 (VS codeshare VS 4049)
VS104 (DL 4365) 01 January 2018 to 28 February 2018 ATL>LHR becomes the DL 284 (VS codeshare VS 4048)

A bit disappointed in that there will be no onboard bar, but happy to see what food DL serve. My previous DL flight had the best transatlantic food ever :D

The food on Delta is far superior to that on Virgin that's for sure, and dare I say it a little too much food. Usually 3 x starters, huge main, dessert and cheese. Then before landing a pretty big warm chicken sandwich topped with melted Swiss cheese - this was last week on the replaced VS45... The seat in Delta One sucks if I'm honest. It's a little too small.

My VS41 on the 22nd has just changed to a 346!

The same thing has just happened with my VS5 flight on Dec 28th (gone from a B789 to a A346); which has done me a missive favour actually as VS released some G reward inventory at the same time meaning I've just upgraded my Virgin Hols booked Premium fare to a G fare :D (which is a bit of a faff but is still doable for ~28K miles + ~£43).

Apologies if this has already been answered, but have VS pulled more 346s into service to aide with the 787/9 dilemma.

My BOS flights in December have switched from both 789 to outbound on an A333 and back on A346. :-( meanwhile leaving LHR yesterday there were 789s everywhere one sitting with red covers on its engines over by the cargo area. Overheard a few customers travelling UC on my 105 not too impressed to find they weren’t on the Dreamliner.

Are any other airlines struggling with their 787 engines, or just VS?

BA having some issues as well.

But the problem is dependent on the type of engine used - in this case a specific new RR engine - rather than it being a generic 787 issue.

Not sure if this was posted earlier but one of the only media related statements I have seen, sounds quite serious really!

I can fully understand why people would be annoyed and upset with the AC swaps, particularly if you were booked to travel on a 787 and end up with a 340, given the fact that no doubt Rolls Royce will be compensating VS you would have thought that they would be compensating their customers?

Personally I am chuffed to bits - I love the 340's and it gives me one last flight on one before they go!

Why on earth would they do that?

Your ticket guarantees travel from A to B in the cabin you paid for. It does not guarantee a specific aircraft type and I’d suggest the vast majority of passengers don’t care what plane they’re on as long as it’s safe and gets them where they want to go on time.

As a goodwill gesture they might let you change flights but they’re under no obligation to.

Ouch - sounds like it's related to a fan blade issue. Read this before. Some of those are manufactured just up the road from me here at Rolls Royce Barnoldswick :-O

Yes, its a Rolls Royce engine issue.

BA are having their engines replaced too, they have a lot more flexibility in their fleet, but they do have some cancelations. Also I believe Virgin 'rated' their engines higher than BA so have been worked a little harder requiring more urgent attention.

We should expect to see some Gatwick 747's in and out of JFK as soon as this week, maybe next or so a little bird tells me.

Indeed so - it'll be covering the VS9/VS10 rotation over the weekend and early next week:

Just a quick question. - we have a flight back from MIA in Upper next week (outbound flight switched from 789 to A340 and was awesome) - we had a 787 going home but it’s now an A340 - if for some reason it switches back and Upper is full how do they handle the downgrade situ ? Can you refuse a downgrade and insist on Upper or a reroute with Delta ?

There are 31 UC seats on the 789 and 45 on the A340 so you won't be affected.

(There is a difference (of 2) between the 'old' A330 (33 seats) and the refurbished version (31 seats).)

I've not seen reports of lots of downgrades - even with all the issues VS are facing with the 789 engines and the A330 refurbs) so I would assume the loads have been manageable.

VS still have a 747 in the old LHR UC config of 44 seats so they could have used that plane rather than downgrade people.

They do? I thought they'd all been scrapped or reconfiged. Is it out in the desert?

They don’t. There are no VS 744’s left now in the old LHR config. They where all retired with the exception of G-VBIG which was converted to the LGW/MAN 14J/66W/375Y leisure config which is the same config as all the other remaining VS 744’s.

G-VWOW went to Virgin Galactic
G-VROC ended up as ER-BAE at Terra Avia
G-VTOP ended up as HS-STI at Orient Thai Airlines
G-VFAB was broken down and scrapped
Not sure about any others?

Oh sorry. I knew about VBIG going to LGW but hadn't realised they'd converted her to the LGW layout.

The IFE is also the non-touchscreen version of VERA and (I could be wrong) no USB sockets below the screens
