Chauffeur Service in New York

Hi There,

I'm flying from MAN to JFK on New Year's Eve. I have the chauffeur service booked to take me to Midtown East in Manhattan.

Question is: Is a tip expected (expecting so as it is New York) and, if so, how much is reasonable?

Apologies if this question has been asked before but I'm a newbie on here.

Thanks,

SD

Technically, no. Purely on the basis "do you give the pilot a tip for flying you to NYC?" No.

That said, it is the USA, so I suspect one would be welcomed / half expected. The only drivers I have had in the USA that don't even flinch at no-tip are Uber ones, as you are free to add any tip you like after the drive.

When we took a yellow cab from JFK to Manhattan (think it was a fixed $46 fare at the time) you could see the driver counting the fare on arrival at our hotel. We gave him $60 so he was well over the 20% and could not complain - despite some of his driving "skills" [or lack thereof]. Danger money paid!
