Virgin Blue today welcomed the announcement of Jetstar’s new network and fare structure while at the same time reaffirming it will do whatever it takes to remain Australia’s low fare leader.

Virgin Blue Chief Executive, Brett Godfrey, said, “Virgin Blue has always been a fierce competitor but we have no enemies and we wish Jetstar well. However make no mistake, we will not be underpriced or out-stunted…..ever. Jetstar announced that it would offer 100,000 seats at $29. We are twice the airline (twice the size), so we will match them and raise them 100,000 seats to offer 200,000 x $29* discounted seats.”

“Competition is a great thing for travel and tourism and at the end of the day it’s especially good for the travelling public”, Brett Godfrey finished.

The special $29* sale fare is available immediately over the Internet until 29 February for travel from 1 May to 30 June 2004 subject to availability on the following routes in either direction:

Hobart – Melbourne
Hobart – Brisbane Launceston – Melbourne

Melbourne – Newcastle
