Need 10k miles

PostPosted: 21 Oct 2005, 21:56

With my next flight taking me up to 30k miles, I just need another 10k so I can upgrade to Upper Class soon.

So... I've got the 10k from the Casino, I've already got an Amex card, so apart from flying somewhere expensive, any other ways I can get 10k miles? :D

TIA!

Mike.

Check out the VS guide for some ideas.

Buying a new car gets you 40k ;)

Or... 13 cases of wine from Virgin Wines

Or... 10 car rentals

Or... transfer a ton of HHonors points

A few Hilton hotel stays in the UK?

Best bet though, is IMHO the 2 points per £ Virgin Mastercard. Racks up the miles very quickly.;)

If only I could drive. Shame Virgin Bikes went under though, I'd buy a bike from them to get miles!

Thanks for the comments, looks like I will be drinking more wine [:p]

I joined Virgin Wines. I had to phone them to get the £25 credit, so now 13 bottles of wine on their way, and at the end of the order they gave me another £20 discount off my next order, for joining their premier wine club, what a bargain :D

Hopefully the 1000 miles will get credited automatically. Only 7502 miles to go!

Glass of wine anyone? [:p]

I'd be interested to know if any of the wines you get are any good, locutus..

I've looked at virgin wines a few times, especially with all the discount vouchers floating around, but always get the impression that the wines are rubbish... especially when I get a couple of nice pinot noirs from Oddbins, which are so sublime.

I'm at present making my way through a mixed case of wine from Virgin Wines. Never got the discount for my first order, and haven't recieved the miles yet, although its only been 2 weeks or so.
Not exactly a wine drinker so I can't really say what's what, but not too bad so far. Been working my way through the red wines as I like the colour better than the white ones. Did have one last night from a different vineyard to the previous 2 and that had a completely different taste. Ideally I'd need to line a load up and sample them all one after the other to get a good idea of what I like the best.
Nice way of racking up points though, especially if you pay on your Virgin credit card as you could pull in 870-990+ miles per case and if you drink a lot of wine, it will soon add up......

One advantage with Virgin wines is that if you don't like one, you tell them and you get a refund so you can keep trying until you do find what you like. Can't see an off licence etc doing that :)

Just to be pedantic, that'd be 13 orders from Virgin Wines (it's per order, not case) [:p]

There are some comments on that in this thread :)

Hi,
Please no one blast me as i'm completely new here and may be wrong but i might be able to help. I recieved an email today from AMEX rewards saying that i could buy 10,000 reward points. I called them straight away to see if I could transfer them straight to my Virgin Frequent Flyer account and the man told me no problem at all. It costs £15 per 1000 points so for the full 10,000 you pay £150. Also you can only purchase 10,000 per year. I am going to start a thread to see what people think of the price is it worth it. If you are desperate to get the points this is a quick and easy way and you mentioned you already have an AMEX card so it would be availible to you. I really hope i've help.

No blasting here - that is 1.5p a mile which sits between the usual calc of 1-2p per mile. Depends on how much you need the miles!

Thanks,
Richard

I Nemmie from a fellow newbie. Would it be possible for you to post further details of the AMEX offer - i have their card but haven't received the email, probably because i don't think they have my email address! i could do with earning a few more miles, and this looks like a good way to go about it.

OK Jetwet, so what yah trying to say[V];)! Sure I've flown around a bit. And sure we drunk all the beer from a bar but only the once[oo]. And sure I've drunk all the mount gay rum in the Welcome Stranger (our local) on more than one occassion. And maybe I wouldn't pass a breathalyser everytime I have been on the board here. But drink every bar dry...I think not...but i'm willing to give it a shot if you are. [|)]

So, the next v-flyer event is a RTW on flexible tickets, we can only continue once we have drunk the designated bar in each city dry? :D[?][|)][xx(][:$][B)].

It was an email about Amex's rewards but i phoned and they said they can be transfered to Virgin Flying Club straight away after purchase.
This is from the email
