Who to choose - A trip to Oz in F/J?

I am in early stages of planning a holiday to Australia, and am Silver on BA. I've been a bit disillusioned with BA J of late(although I do like F), and I realise that I have a choice out there, so I thought I would look to see what else is available, especially with the rise of the middle eastern airlines.

I am looking to travel from LHR ultimately to Perth, with a couple of internals whilst there (which I can do myself), then onto Bora Bora from Sydney for 5 nights, probably in F (although I would consider J if not much tangible difference between the two).

Considerations for me would be the lounges in UK and beyond (I heard there were some decent ones in Sydney), the food/wine/service on board, and of course the hard product itself. Miles/Avios would be a consideration but not the be all and end all necessarily.

Would anyone have any advice or opinion on who to choose (for a RTW or a simple return ticket)?

Many thanks.

I've just had a stellar flight with VS to HKG in UC .
My last flight to Oz was with BA ( F) to HKG and then to PER with CX in J which was fantastic ( no F on the route). My BA flights were solid - great food, drink and service. I like the CCR but appreciate that some don't.
Travelling with CX ( in J) out of HKG gives you plenty of lounge options at HKG and I have to report that The Wing was up to it's usual standard when I was there a few days ago en route to BKK.
If travelling BA ( F) you can use the F section of The Wing (which is rather nice :) or the QF lounge.

Etihad or Emirates. HWVLOVER has experience of both, including a leg or two in F. I have fond memories of my experience in J on Emirates back from Sydney.

We have done Malaysia Airlines a couple of times to Brisbane and were very pleased.
The Heathrow lounge was very nice and service was great throughout.
On one flight it was a low load and after the doors closed they moved the few of us in business up into first.

My recent "amazing" flights with Virgin and BA have had to be reclassified following my experience with Emirates.

There is simply no comparison. Emirates are fantastic. From the onboard showers on the A380, the huge on board bar, the entertainment, the actual seat and bed, the amenities and the attention from the staff.

TR coming soon but am slowly uploading pics to my Instagram. (billy_shearer)

Was that in J or F?

F presumably, as the showers are only for F passengers I think. All the ME3 knock spots off any European airline but I guess that's the benefit of being subsidised by rich governments! And there are some who don't like EK for its "bling" and it's IFE censorship.

Definitely in F, based on Sealink's mention of both the showers and attention from the staff. Not that service isn't good in J, just a bit impersonal on the 380.

The Bling is fine, the censored IFE isn't.

If you look for HWVLover's TRs on EK you'll see pictures of the 380 layout and bar, and I posted a few from our trip to SA last summer.

Wasn't aware of the censorship (and US airlines do it too), was too busy enjoying the box sets of Crazy Ex Girlfriend and Arrested Development.

The huge bar is in J btw.

And you ventured out from F to slum it? Perhaps that's why they have showers in F, to be taken after mixing with the proles... ;-)

I think it's a very different proposition to the VS bar. Quite a few use the seats around the side just to take a break from staring at a TV screen. The constant supply of warm nuts and other snack items is great too...

I'll happily wait for Billy's trip report.

That's if he can stop tickling a wombat.

I have to say as well, just to muddy the waters.... the loveliest First Class moment I have had in the air was on a BA flight.

Had I not seen the picture I might be wondering whether that was a euphemism.
