It's been a little while since the flight but better late than never.

We had been holidaying in Key West but were evacuated a day early and spent the nigh locked up in the Marriot South Beach - not a bad place to be stranded.
I had phoned VS to make sure the flight was actually going to leave and the very helpfull lady advised us to leave for the airport ASAP - which was good advice as we only just managed to get across the Mcarthur causeway due to flooding.

Since we had arrived at 12 for a 1830 flight we had a lot of time to kill luckily for us they let us sit in the club America lounge before check in opened.

The lounge at MIA is not a patch on the CH so much so the check in crew apologised for it amongst other things already mentioned Link

The flight was delayed for about 3 hours not bad I thought considering Rita .

I didnt find out what plane we were on but they seem to have priority boarding sorted out now so we were politely escorted to the gat by VS staff and boarded.
I was in 7K and my two pals in 8 & 9 K, I'd picked these as i wanted to sleep on the way back.

A couple of drinks were served whilst the other pax were boarding and i noticed we had V-Port so iwas very happy with that.

The IFBT came round and as i had a voucher was second on the list so my neck and shoulder massage was booked.

The crew seemed very happy and quite chatty on this trip taking the mikey out of me which i quite enjoyed.

I started watching The Descent blimey did i jump a couple of times ! I don't need to explain the benefits of V-Port but it so makes a difference.

I was taken for my massage which was excellent a welcome relief from the stress of sitting at MIA for 8 hours.

The FSM came round and intoduced herself giving out Carlos she spent about 20 mins with me saying that she knew I had travelled with her before - seems they were also stuck in their hotel in MIA as well. I complimented her on her lovely crew which resulted in a treat later !

The meal was served again no complaints there at all I had a shrimp salad i think folowed by the lamb - mmmm nice the way they serve the sauce on the side.Don't recall what desert I had but it was nice I'm sure.

After dinner a member of cabin crew asked if i wanted a bed making up which i said yes to, but to help me she made up 6k instead so i used 2 UCS which meant i could dump all my stuff on the original seat whilst i crawled into bed having put my sleep suit on.
Any how i lay down and seemed to close my eyes for what seemd like a few minutes waking up thinking i was a bit hot and uncomfortable and thirsty.
I thought stuff it these seats are so uncomfortable so i got up and went to the loo and asked for some juice - to be told that we would be landing in 45 mins and did i want a bacon roll ! I'd been asleep for 5 hours !!! Incredible.

So I got back into my other seat had my roll and juice and warm coffee and we landed.

We were sat waiting for a gate for about 20 mins which meant we wouldnt have a huge amount of time in revivals. We were straight through passport control and bags were waiting for us a quick shower and coffee and i was home with in 1 1/2 hours .

In conclusion : Awful lounge at MIA, excellent flight Do they drug us to make sure we sleep so well in the flat bed? I was so made to feel welcome by the crew they were all so nice.

Those flat bed seats can trick you,did the same thing LAX-LHR last month (though in club so not as much room) but it is a good way to fly trans-atlantiic.[y]

Thanks for the TR[y][y]

Given the circumstances (Rita and all) your return to the UK went reasonably well and you seemd to have received good service in UCS.
Curiousity has got the better of me so I have one question:
The crew seemed very happy and quite chatty on this trip taking the mikey out of me which i quite enjoyed

Any reason the crew singled you out[?][}:)][?]

I'm not sure either but one of the crew when bringing the wine round said ' I assume you'll be drinking wine sir ?' in a sarcastic way then apologised for perhaps going a bit far.
But then again people generally take the mikey out of me for no reason [:o)]

Did Rita affect you much down in the Keys. I would imagine that there was a lot of activity boarding up, and getting people out.

Interesting report, Tim. Thank you.

How did you enjoy Key West? Was it your first trip? I've been there just once and spent a lot of time on my scooter and in the bars.

Regarding Rita, you were certainly fortunate to get out when you did. Lady Luck was with you.

Regards,
Chuck-

Yep first time to Key West lovely place - with normal sized roads !
The final weekend of the trip was the Poker Run a sight to behold !! 1000's of Harley's in one street !
I'm sure I'll go back again sometime - perhaps not in hurricane season !
