I arrived in Delhi after the Jet Airways early morning flight from Bangalore. After retrieving my baggage I had to make the transfer to the International Terminal. Anyone who has flown through Delhi knows that this is a particularly bizarre experience. Firstly I had to wait 30 minutes for the bus during which time I finished a little work. I was eventually escorted onto an ancient bus (no Air Con) by an armed military guard for the 25 minute lap of the perimeter of the airport.
After arriving in the International Terminal and getting the hold luggage X-Rayed I went straight over to the Virgin Desk was checked in by a very nice member of staff. Time to experience The Lounge. Delhi is sadly lacking the luxuries of the CH at LHR and the lounge here is a small room where a quick G&T can be enjoyed, however I would not wish to spend any longer here hence I boarded as soon as possible
Upon boarding (Seat 3-A), I was offered the champagne and the IFBT introduced herself and distributed the OB kits. Our taxi out to the runway took an extremely long time with lots of throttling up and cutting back of the engine which cumulated in a long wait at the end of the taxi-way. After half an hour or so the captain informed us there was a problem with the engine and they were working with London to rectify the situation. There was also an issue with the cooling in the cabin as it was warm up front but apparently unbearably hot down-the-back. More refreshments were circulated before we had to taxi back to the stand for the engineers to look into the problem.
Eventually we pulled away again and took off about an hour late. The flight itself was pretty uneventful and permitted a couple of hours sleep. I forget what was on the menu. The only other thing that stood out was the IFBT. I opted for the hand massage over the back massage on my previous flight. I found this an interesting change, however I will be reverting back to my old ways for future trips!
Great service from the crew (who are forced to stay in Slough of all places when they fly in from India Cmon SRB, you can do better than Slough cant you!?!) and a good way to start a week back home.
