I was making my second Vegas trip this year, this time solo. Booking was easy via the Flying Club helpline. I was found two flights using miles plus money to travel UC, which fitted with the dates I wanted.

I stayed overnight at the Bloc hotel which is actually in South Terminal - adjacent to the Departure gate. It is fine for one person - the rooms are very compact and the bathroom has a glass wall, so it might not suit all couples travelling. The room is well soundproofed.

I woke early so showered and headed to the ClubHouse. There was hardly any queue at security so getting to the ClubHouse was easy. I had eggs Florentine for breakfast which was delicious, and a manicure and facial in the salon. The staff were very good, checking to see I had all I needed. Oh, I also tried one of the Redhead cocktails which was fabulous.

I headed for the gate earlier than announced and was one of the first people in the departure area. The staff just let everyone board the plane as they arrived rather than making us all wait. Very civilised and I think this means that actually people get settled in their seats earlier and is a more speedy process.

I had chosen my seat when I booked, 9C, so not too close to the bar or galley and with overhead locker space. I asked for a Mimosa rather than plain sparkling wine when I boarded, and had time for two before we took off. Take off was on time, and the flight was fairly smooth. There were two seats empty in UC and hardly any passengers in the downstairs PE. This meant there was never a queue for the loo, and they were kept clean and stocked with paper towels etc thoughout the flight.

Meals - I had butternut squash soup which was lovely and some beef which was OK but not excellent. I also had cheese and biscuits rather than dessert - it would be lovely if they kept the cheese and biscuits available through the flight rather than the burger / prawn dumplings that are available. We also had afternoon tea just before landing - I just had a scone which tasted freshly baked and very good.

The crew on my flight were great, friendly and helpful. There was a bit of socialising at the bar but it was relatively quiet most of the time. My only gripe was the seat did not work properly. The seat opposite me was not working either and that person opted to move to the back of the cabin. As it was a day time flight i did not bother. Hopefully they will both be fixed for my return journey if the same plane is used. The plane felt a little old, although I thought they were all refurbished a year or so ago?

Lovely TR and great info re the Bloc. I haven't stayed there and to be honest I've already seen the worst bits of Mr M to even worry about a glass bathroom wall, but it's something a lot may not relish!

Such a shame your seat wasn't working properly but as you say, on a day flight it's not an issue really - I am a tad confused by your seat number.

Have a great time, I look forward to the return TR.

Your seat wasn't working and you gave it 4 stars?!

I love bloc hotel. Have stayed in all room types, the glass doors have frosting to preserve a bid of modesty! If you love planes, the VIP rooms with runway views are a dream! The lovely receptionists will usually give you one if you explain...

Thanks for the TR.

The second TR i have read today that speaks of faulty UC seats. As you say, these aircrraft were only re-furb'd a few years back, so it does seem as though they are getting more than thier fair share of use.

Enjoy Vegas
