How about low fat spread?

But has to be brown sauce. Tomato ketchup does not work with a sausage sandwich.

Butter - only if the bread is old and dry - if proper soft fresh bread, definitely no butter required

And mustard - not red or brown sauce

And also BTW - if its square, its not a sausage.

If you're going to have a sasusage sandwich, then hang the diet, go the whole 'hog' and have the Lurpak with the sauce and if it drips, it drips :D

My vote goes to lorne sausage too, if you have never tried then you must, its flat, its square shaped and it has more fat content than meat ie: no need of butter. y)

cheers

In answer to OP - Yes, a bit of butter and brown (HP) sauce.

My preference is for a bacon butty + butter + HP sauce.

In taste tests (sample of 1 = me) Gatwick CH does a better bacon butty than Heathrow CH. The latter was too dry and hard. :(

I opted for the Gardeners Breakfast at LHR yesterday ..... lovely and gooey and runny (Muffin, mushroom, tomato, poached egg + hollandaise sauce; all in a stack) :)

Never miss a chance to add some butter. It's early enough here that I ran and toasted some baguette and liberally spread some salted butter on it!

It being a well known fact that from my neck of the woods a roll is known colloquially as a butty, I think that kind of says it all. And being very open to the cultural variations that come with variety in backgrounds, I don't begrudge people skipping on it, but myself I have found a purveyor who makes butter with unpasteurized milk, and it's quite the experience. I honestly would rather skip the sausage than the butter :D

My favourite is a bacon, egg and mushroom buttie - brown sauce on the bacon and tomato on the egg (butter on the bread!) - YUM :)

Seriously... It's very simple. Heinz ketchup for sausage. HP for bacon. Pepper for both (ideally "pinched from virgin"). And the question of butter really doesn't arise. If you have to ask, you clearly need to stick to boiled eggs and toast soldiers.

*ahem*

Well very unscientifically, it's 20 yes's and 7 no's (I may have counted the duchess of lambs honey twice ii) ).

So, northerners and grease monkeys rule.

Now, I'm not going to ask about marmite (I'm with the Danish!).
