I'm not a superstitious person. I don't avoid row 13 (indeed its the exit row on a 737), black cats, ladders etc. I don't need to say hello to a crow. I don't believe in fate. But I got caught out. After 11 years of marriage the wife spotted my guilty secret, exposed me for the hypocrite that I am.

When I board the plane I have to touch the outer skin as I board, to say hello.

I don't know why I do it. I don't know how long I've done it. I just know I have to do it. I'm a reasonably sane person. I'm am engineer. I know the plane isn't going to crash because I forgot to pat it.

Please help me feel normal, tell me I'm not the only one that does something daft.

Lol
Since August 2003 I have worn the exact same outfit on every flight I took (except one sector).

Somehow I always have to say some special words just after boarding that always make me feel so comfortable and content and ever so ready to fly.

A few years ago there was a similar thread to this and a high proportion of VFers admitted to touching the outer skin of the aircraft on boarding.

As for me, I'm with tonty on this one :D

My wife and I do the very same thing, the wife had been touching the skin of the aircraft ever since her first flight, now it has rubbed off onto me.
No harm in rubbing something for luck.

I am an Engineer too, lol
Could that be the reason?
Can't be, the wife( who also touches the skin), can't even wire a plug.
If seated near the wings I can even confess to talking to the engines, I've only done this a couple of times, just a few gentle words of encouragement.
And there was me thinking I'm not superstitious.

I won't put my flight socks on till I am in my seat much to my husbands annoyance especially when we are in ECO as there is very little room for maneuvering :P

I say the serenity prayer on take off but then I am a recovering nervous flyer.
