Katzenjammer will be returning to the Edinburgh Fringe on Friday 17th August - back at the Brunton Theatre again, so I thought it might be an idea to see who's up for a weekend at the Fringe again.

This year, I'd recommend you (a) find a hotel a little closer to the action, and (b) actually see a few shows ;). Not to suggest sitting in the beer garden in the shadow of a huge purple upside-down cow wasn't pleasant, though :D

Great idea Pete - I'll keep the seats warm next to the cow!!

Anyone got any ideas for hotels?

I realise we have left it a bit late, but I am having trouble finding anything decent near the centre at the moment.

How about - DARE I SAY IT - staying in Glasgow and using Scotrail's finest to pop through and sample the delights?

Just a wee thought.

I don't mind where we stay - getting back to the hotel (wherever it may be) from Musselburgh late Friday night (or early Saturday morning [:I] ) is the main issue.

I assume Scotrail run a fairly late service for Edinburgh revellers returning to Glasgow, John?

Perhaps John could rustle up a train especially for V-Flyers [:w]

Could always use high level loyalty schemes to assure a room :) Even for points with any luck

I'll try and dig up a link, but the University of Edinburgh make available pretty good accomodation for those on a budget (but without wanting to stay in a flea-pit).

Other options include renting a private appartment (not as crazy as it may seem - it can work out cheaper to rent a flat for a week than a couple of nights in a hotel). Check the edfringe.com forums for a huge number of people renting out their own flats, or sites like Factotum. Check out the handy tips on Frommers with links for further reading.

Thanks,

PS. Oh yes, forgot to say LadyS and I will be attending EDI again this year. Should be flying up on Friday lunchtime and flying home early evening on the Sunday. Hotel booked, just flights to sort.

Is that this year? Didn't think they'd opened the box office (or even announced the programme) yet.

... but if it is, count me in.

For anyone looking for a reasonable hotel deal, I can currently see the Hilton Grosvenor for £99/nt (inc taxes) at

link

The Hilton at the Airport is £20 cheaper.

Both are more expensive direct at Hilton.com, not sure if Hilton do a price promise in the UK.

(Yes I did search via TravelJungle hence the URL).

Thanks,
Richard

£99 central Edinburgh during the festival for a good hotel is a steal.

Excuse naive question... is there such a thing as "pre booking seats" in these theatres? Wasn't the last time we did the fringe but thought I'd double check. Mrs D and I up Friday afternoon return Sunday evening.

It's free-seating in pretty much every theatre on the Fringe (with only some rare exceptions). All we'll need is tickets and to turn up in a crowd reasonably early to bag seats in the same area (remember, in Pam Ann's shows, First Class is up the front!)
