VS200 and VS201 (from LHR-HKG-SYD and the return) are good examples here. You earn TPs as if it were two different flights (double the one ways) even though they have the same flight number.

Whilst technically a through fare is given as an all the way fare from A-C; A-B and B-C are diff flights and as such you should earn for miles travelled. My source for this lot is the amount of times I have connected in the US travelling through a gateway city and then on from there... all sectors earning miles and TPs (if applicable) - US Airways I will miss you from the VS partners list :#

Penny_L wrote:thats what I mentioned in my posts earlier, the through tickets I have had on VX have only earned 1 set of TP's even though I had connecting flights/different flight no's

Penny, I have a feeling that it is just VX communicating the wrong information, if the fare class you were flying on was an earning one for both sectors that is. You should have earned TPs and miles for the LAS-SFO and then the SFO-BOS sectors. They are completely different flights and as you say have diff flight numbers.. still got your BPs to send off to VS? :w

yes the flights were earning ones, and got the points after sending the BP's to VS. Got 1TP for the whole trip, not 1TP for each sector...and thats happened twice now.

I too have gotten two sets of tier points with connecting flights with VX and US partner flights. It makes sense that you should get two sets of tier points but I was just checking if it was still the same with DL cause it all seems a bit too good to be true....

Strict wording is "..per one way partner flight", so yes that would be correct under my interpretation :P

Is it only $400? Wow.. makes AU very achievable doesn't it.... unless of course VS follow suit with DL and release a MQD equivalent for spends/miles flown only with VS to achieve status ii)

Well VS have already opened the door on that in that only VS flights qualify for the Lifetime Gold offer.

And don't BA require 4 flights to be on BA metal to retain their status?

Yep, tis likely to happen.. best not speak too soon though :P

4 QFs for Ag and AU but only 2 needed for BA Bronze.

I found this fascinating and in fact if you buy a return fare on the MAN LHR route the fare is £88 for 2 TP essentially meaning £44 per TP and gold from scratch costing just £1760. About the same price as a cheap UC fare!

Hmm. I only need half that. Tempting.

My partner needs 2 tier points to retain silver status, so I was thinking of booking a Little Red flight so he can get them. Do you only get the points if you actually fly?

Yes, you do need to fly to get any miles and tier points.

You do need to fly but if you check in at the airport you will be able to fly out and back on the next flight as both boarding passes will be issued and all little red flights arrive at the departure gate where you can get off wait for cleaning to be completed and get straight back on.

He is going to take some convincing to do either a weekend in Manchester or what you have suggested CHill710....I look after his miles account and he simply thinks I am mad making him sign up to credit cards and bonus points offers etc etc.

He wasn't complaining when he managed to bag himself a PE upgrade when we flew back from Cancun on Saturday though - leaving me in EC!!! 8D

Thanks for the tip though....I am hoping he has some business travel before May to bag himself those 2 precious TP's!

I wanted to get the most Tier Points for the least amount of flying and for a cheap price. On Virgin America its $71 each way from LAX-SFO and 1 TP, so this is cheaper and I can get it done in a day.

So, I looked at flying from LAX to a Delta Hub and then a close flight from there and NONE on Delta Connections (I don't think you can get Tier Points for flying them, someone verify...) I waited a day after I found the routing to purchase and it went up from $553 to $653... doh!

Also I can confirm you get TPs for Delta Connections. I did YYZ to MSP last month and it posted as expected :)

Good work, sir!
^)

Not quite as spectacular as the infamous SIN-KUL SQ Gold Run of 2006, when 3 returns on SQ F cost £300 total, and netted 30 TPs and renewal!

But if you're in LAX, this is ideal... And is actually even better value than flying up and down to EDI on Little Rec, which at best offers £44 / TP.

Only downside is the TPs on Delta don't count towards lifetime Gold.. if you happen to be aiming for such distinction.. :w

I have often found booking a 2TP ticket in Econ or 3TP ticket in PE, then changing the fare class to upgrade the cabin with miles at check in, is a cheap way of earning an extra TP per sector. For some reason the total cost always seems much cheaper than buying the 3 or 4 TP ticket in the first place. Even though the cabin upgrade does depend on reward seats being available at check in, it can be as little as £50 to get the extra TP.

INCIDENTALLY
Earning TPs on the Bank of America VA CC is great for those who can apply (US citizens only), but very poor the VA Amex/Visa combo does not offer the same. Come on Virgin, a UK company offering a better deal to its US customers than its UK ones? that really ought to be changed..... Can anyone at The Office respond please?
