V-Flyer

Hi

I have had to change my plans due to work committments and can only use the return portion of my flight. having done the good thing and phoned BA to let them know (and give them more revenue by selling my outbound seat again) they informed me that if I didn't fly out they would cancelmy whole trip. Now I understand if that was for people who just had not turned up but I feel a bit agrieved at telling them I still want to fly some of the flight I have paid for and being told I can't!

Has anyone overcome this or have any tips for me? Otherwise I will have to pay for another flight (return is connecting to a Virgin flight) so that I can get back to the USA!

That is using your flight 'out of sync.' They should re-fare your booking as a one way trip, which may well work out at a higher fare than you originally paid. These are standard iata rules as each rule is governed by the airport of origin for the trip. you are actually changing where your trip is originating.

As Juliet says, it will now be a one way so the fare is likely to be much higher as they are based on pure Y, W or J.

If it were me, I'd look to use miles instead. Or book a new set of flights using the outbound dates as your original dates (and whenver for the return).

Thanks - I think I am going to have to rebook - shame as it defeats the whole purpose of booking so far ahead and getting a cheap ticket!! Never mind all part of life's tapesty I guess[:?]

I just want to say I have now spoken to a very nice lady in BA (UK number!) and she advised me how to get the best from my money - unlike the lady on the US help desk[V]. I have cancelled my original flight and got the taxes back (which was the bulk of it) minus 15 pounds and can rebook a one way for the date I need. It all works out the same price(albeit one less leg) but I am very happy with the outcome. To be fair I did not think I was eligable to get the taxes back so I guess the majority of the issue was my own fault! [:I]

Anyway I just wanted to say that BA helped me in the end and wanted to ensure I addressed the balance of my earlier post[y]
