BA increasing Fuel Surcharge - but not Y

British Airways has hiked its fuel surcharge for premium passengers.

1st time BA has surcharged one class higher than another - excuse is it is appropriate as business and first class passengers have more space and luggage allowance.

First class, Club World and World Traveller Plus passengers will now pay up to 24 more per flight than economy travellers.

3rd surcharge boost this year.

Hmmm. Interesting justification. I guess the much higher ticket price has nothing to do with your amount of space and luggage allowance.....

Seems like a totally sensible justification to me. It's a fuel surcharge and is therefore representative of the proportion of the a/c that you are using. If you have more space you have a higher percententage of the a/c = more metal = more weight and therefore proportionally you're using more fuel - and the fuel cost is what is justifying the surcharge.

Only surprise I have is that it's the first time it's happened. BA probably realised that Y passengers were paying an unfair and disproportionate amount.
