Cheap way to buy Avios points (£500 per 100,000)

Just noticed that Avios are running a promotion in February 2012.

Exchange your Clubcard vouchers for Avios during February 2012
For every £2.50 in Clubcard vouchers, get 400 bonus Avios
That's on top of the standard 600 Avios you usually collect
And you can do it as many times as you like.

So for £250 of vouchers you can get 100,000 points.

Combine that with the fact there are a gazillion Tesco clubcard points being sold on eBay at any one time at roughly £2 cash per £1 of voucher and for £500 you could have enough points for a club world return to the USA!

I keep double checking my maths to make sure I've not made a mistake but it seems that other than the small risk of a dodgy ebay seller (which you can mitigate but buying small amounts at a time) it seems too good to be true.

What have I missed?

I wonder if there are any similar schemes for Virgin?

I didn't know that you could buy clubcard points on ebay. How it this possible - I thought that they would be locked into ones account.

me neither as all mine have our names printed on them with a unique online code for that particular voucher. I would be very careful that you can buy others, always check with Tesco Clubcard they are very helpful.

Thanks Buddingpilot - can I ask where you saw this? I've read it online before, but not anywhere official so was a bit sceptical about it. Certainly sounds like a fantastic offer and I have been stockpiling Clubcard vouchers in anticipation of a nice redemption offer. :)

I too would be wary of buying Clubcard vouchers from others...

Likewise have been saving up my CC vouchers for the past few months - will have a fairly significant number to exchange. For me though, the acid test of the new scheme will be the level of availablity relative to the old Air Miles program - I may have been lucky, but 3 years on the trot we had no difficulty in getting European flights (Rome, Nice, Milan) for the whole family during the summer holidays...

I think others are right that you can't buy vouchers - it would appear the people selling on eBay ask you what you want to do with the vouchers and apply on your behalf so you would e.g. have to hand over your Exec Club number and there may be issues if EC see lots of redemptions from different accounts.

Caveat Emptor !!!
