Looks like I have to go on a quick business trip to Cape Town at the end of the month. As its such a short trip (5 days) we have decided that a direct flight is best.
Last time I flew BA long haul was 15 years ago so don't have a clue re Lounges, Op ups or best seats to pick (going Ec as client is paying)
Dates should be 22/05 - 27/05
Any advice is welcomed
Thank you

Lounge Access:
Unless you have status with BA/oneworld you won't get lounge access on a Y ticket and there are no 3rd party lounges at T5.

And op-up unlikely without status..
CPT is a busy flight usually, and op-ups happen.. but they'll go the higher status pax.
(probably)

Yes if sticking to BA you have no chance of a lounge pass in Heathrow T5. In Cape Town again the BA lounge will be non accesible to you but you can pay for a pass I believe through various companies on an annual membership basis. This will get you into the Bidvest Lounge which is what VS UC get access to. It is no "Clubhouse" but is okay if a long journey ahead.

There is a very active BA board on FlyerTalk you might (if you are brave) want to have a look at.
However many of it's denezins bite !

I prefer Plane Food in T5 than the lounge anyway, and you can also buy a picnic for eating on the plane.
