I've added a new page to VirginFlyer today,
http://www.virginflyer.com/seatmaps.asp - which provides a quick reference on the seat maps if you want to compare the different aircraft (rather than going through the full seat ratings page or aircraft databases).

Hi Pix,
I cannot get the thumbnails to open, it just says "javascript" in the dialogue box at the bottom of the page

Looks excellent, thanks

What's very strange is that I have a similar sort of problem to Alan.
3 machines, all running W2k SP4 + IE 6.0.2800.1106 (128bit enc.

1 (home this morning) - no problem at all
1 (test box at work) - no problem at all
1 (work laptop) - will only display the picture if you right click the thumbnail, although I can see that the "placeholder" for the pictures is there if I make a selection to include that part.
Curious.....[?]
Cheers
Michael

I have just checked and both my laptop and my desktop are showing the same problem of not opening the thumbnail. Both same version of IE and both Windows XP SP1

Hmmm... can't seem to reproduce the problem on my Mac or W2K box. Could be an XP thing, or maybe not...
Richard! help!;)

Probably something to do with security settings in IE. One of you guys might wanna compare whats deep in IE's advanced settings between a machine that works and one that doesn't

Try clearing your cache in IE and see if that improves things.

Even works fine on XPSP2 RC1

Thanks,

Tried all of that, still no pop ups.
The small pictures are there, but when you click on the little picture (it has changed to a hand by the way) nothing happens.
In the bottom line of IE all it shows for each picture is "javascript:;"

Alan, it's not a pop up you should be seeing; the full-sized map should appear below the line of thumbnails. The 'javascript:;' in the status bar is expected, as that's the 'dummy' link (ie, a blank link, just so I can attach a control to the mouse click).
Can't quite fathom why it's working on some and not on others yet - I've still yet to find a way of reproducing the problem, so a bit stuck so far.

Well, after flushing my cache, dumping my core, and eating my cookies, it looks like it's ok now

Strange how this laptop was the only machine that didn't like it *shrug*
Thanks for the suggestions all

Pix, useful and fast feature, could you put a description on the page to say what config you are viewing, useful if printing hardcopy to take away.
Also, are you putting this feature into the mobile.virginflyer.com section?

For you guys getting the 'Javascript ()' window ....
Are you clicking on the link, or opening it up in a new browser window? If so, i know you get a Javascript message if you do that?

The errors are still a mystery to me, since I can't reproduce them, and as mcuth mentioned (after 'dumping his core'..!) it sounds like a machine-specific thing. Hmmm... As HighFlyer also mentioned, trying to open in a new window won't work because of the way the code works.
Anyways, here's what the page is attempting to do (understanding sometimes leads to a solution!).
When the page loads, it also pre-loads all the images of the seatmaps in the background. On a dial-up connection it could be possible that the maps haven't completely loaded before you start clicking.
On the default page (before you start clicking), the image at the bottom of the page is a 1-pixel x 1-pixel transparent square (ie, invisible). When you then click on one of the thumbnail images, a simple javascript command replaces that 1-pixel image with the appropriate seatmap that has loaded in the background.
So, a couple of possible areas that might cause problems. If you have javascript turned off on your browser (sometimes this happens when you turn your security settings to the max), or you're not on a broadband connection and trigger-happy as soon as the thumbnails appear, either of those could potentially cause problems.
Apologies for the techno-babble, but thought an explanation of what's going on behind the scenes might help those still having problems (and also give me clues if there's anything I can do to work around them!).

OK,
soilved my problem.
If I click once nothing happens. I have to double click on the image!
