Well after a day spent in the city it was time to return home. We hopped back on the Airlink for the half hour journey back to the airport and as we had no baggage stopped for a quick refreshment before heading through security.Dublin airport is in the midst of a 2 billion euro redevelopment (according to the advertisements and hoardings)and the approach road from the city is a complete building site.
Anyway, security was very busy with the queues exacerbated by travellers not removing belts, jackets etc. Some of us were singled out for the shoe carnival treatment (me included) but the whole process was reasonably efficient.Again we we departing from one of the D gates (and as HL has stated almost as far a walk as Dundalk) which took an age to walk to.The flight was on time and an orderly queue was forming for non-priority boarding just as we got to the gate.We were swiftly scanned and after the quick walk out to the aircraft we settling in our row. The aircraft was again a nice new 737-800. The return flight was only about half full and we were soon departing. No problems with the safety briefing, with all the passengers paying attention.
One airborne, the pleasant, helpful crew did a drinks and snacks run. There was a bit of turbulence (which totally unnerved my brother) with the flightdeck apologising for the rough ride. 35 minutes after deparure we were landing in a wet windy BRS (complete with fanfare )and disembarking shortly after. As there was nobody manning security and we had no luggage we were in the car park 10 minutes after landing and home a little after an hour later.
Both crews were pleasant and hardworking with the majority being Eastern European (possibly reflecting the routes Ryanair currently operate), and much better than some previous Ryanair crews I've experienced on the past. All in all though, a pleasant day out. My only real complaint is that the Euro rate is absolutely crippling at the moment, and I can see me spending far more than I'd like on my trip to sunny Spain in a few weeks time.It will be interesting to see how the LCCs fare to Euro spending destinations in the coming months.
