V-Flyer

So arrived into LHR Terminal 5 a couple of hours prior to the flight, went to the Check In/Bag Drop area and was met by a Mute Man - no matter what I asked he didnt actually say or ask anything. He just handled the passports and bits of paper pressed a few keys and then pointed me in the direction of security... nice.

Once through security we headed straight to Gordon Ramseys restaurant and had a great breakfast there - pricey but worth it I thought. Champagne and Posh Egg and Bacon Sarny - sorted! Went to the gate and eventually allowed to board - felt good to turn left onto the aircraft and was happy with the seats onboard - decent legroom and seat pitch I thought. I wasnt impressed with the food, the video port stuff worked well and good selection of films. The staff onboard seemed maturer (older) than what you get on Virgin - which I actually liked, and I considor myself a youngster still (30). They were all in good spirits and they appeared genuinely happy to help you. Also had the cabin crew come round with drinks trolley on 3 occassions which was great, last time I went in PE on Virgin it was once and that was within the first 15 minutes of the flight and then they were not seen again.

I was suprised that World Traveller Plus is located right at the front of the aircraft just behind First, and that infact they are let off first ahead of First Class and with Club. Marketing-wise I would have thought it more sensible to swap Club with WT+ in order to get those who usually purchase WT seats to actually properly see the WT+ seats which arent too much more expensive than where they are already seeing rather than getting them to walk past Club which generally is far more expensive. Just my thoughts and I am by no means a marketing guru. You would also solve the problem of First Class customers not being let off first which I could tell a few of the First Class customers werent very impressed about.

All in all a good trip and worth the bit extra money for World Traveller Plus seats.

Nice report. Sums up much of my exprience with BA; great, mature crew and very hit-and-miss check-in staff that often seem mute.

I seem to recall that the WT+ location was something to do with getting the ideal number of WT+ and CW seats on the aircraft - JP may recall better?

WT+ passengers are not allowed to use the Club kitchen but given the location it is easy for many passengers to use it or misunderstand what its there for.

WT+ ended up in front of CW when the low J config 747s were refited with NGCW seats to become mid J config. More space was needed for the extra NGCW seating so WT+ leap-frogged J.The High config 747s still have J infront of WT+.
