Given that a Qantas A380 had engine problems a week before this flight and then a Qantas 747's cockpit filled with smoke a day or two before, there was some trepidation when I checked in. I was scheduled to fly on a 747 but because of all the problems they had shuffled planes around and in the end I flew on a pretty old A330.

The plane itself wasn't great One of the toilets was out of order so there was only one for the whole of business class for an eight hour flight. There were also no flat beds, although the reclined seat was pretty comfortable to fall asleep in.

The onboard service more than made up for the aircraft. The cabin crew were friendly and nothing seemed too much trouble. The food was some of the best I've had in the air. I particularly liked the fact the steward was knowledgeable about the wines of board and gave advice about which went best with each course of the meal.

Nice PJs and wash kit too.

I'm not sure if the crew were somehow compensating for all the airlines problems, but they were fantastic; I'd definitely fly Qantas again.

Thanks for the TR. I remember one year we flew LHR-SYD with Qantas and agree the CC were very good. Pity the plane was not up to scratch but it sounds as if you enjoyed the flight. We are all very spoilt now when flying Business, it is a shock when the seats only recline!
