3968 JFK-ORD 30 JAN 11 (COACH)

But on Sunday I flew with Delta from JFK to Chicago.
My wife had been out to visit, and after a quick trip to NYC it was time for her to head home and me head up to Chicago. We had a work car service to JFK which couldn't find our downtown hotel (The Hilton Garden Inn Tribeca) but we weren't badly delayed and the traffic was pretty light to JFK. At the VS check in (flying home PE) I asked if I could upgrade her to UC using my miles but told this was not possible. Which I found odd as her flight here and home was booked using my miles, but I never really understand how all that works! the cash price to upgrade was $1300 which we decided to decline!
He also tried to charge for her checking in a 2nd bag - but I said that I was pretty sure that PE passengers could check two bags... 'oh yes, you're right..' he replied - so it was all a little odd.
Once we'd said our goodbyes I dragged myself and my cases off to Terminal 3 (one quick stop on the airtrain) and then quite a long walk to the terminal.
The check in area is tiny, but it was deserted I had to pay $55 for checking in two bags and was soon through security into probably the worst terminal - it's dark, grey, miserable looking place. Another long trek to the gate where I got settled and waited. there was one good thing - some tables had ipads on them and you could order food and drink to be brought to your table through it - which I did - $25 for a glass of wine and cheese and biscuits!
The actual flight itself was fine - we left pretty much on time, there was one drinks run, and a pleasant cabin crew.
Only one more internal flight to do before heading home...
