Luton - Berlin Schoenefeld
Aircraft: Airbus A319

This was a short 2 night break in Berlin over the Bank Holiday weekend booked with easyJet from our local airport, Luton (although I hasten to add we don't live in Luton itself!)

Flight was at 7am so an early start for the zoom down to the airport on quiet roads at this time. Parked at mid-term parking and entered the terminal at around 5.50am. Security was absolutely heaving and had more than a few (sorry if this sounds snobbish) 'once a year' travellers heading to the usual Med holiday destinations who had absolutely no idea how to read signs about liquids, one item of hand luggage and so on. Security took nearly half an hour, madness for a local airport like Luton, and wasn't helped by the fact that not all the X-ray machines were in use.

The gate was already showing in the departure lounge, so we headed straight there to join the boarding queue. We boarded at about 6.40 via the rear steps (because the speedy boarders always seem to be programmed to go to the front!)

The flight was almost full, and we had a very smooth 1h 20m flight. We landed about on time, and were soon through the small terminal and on to the Airport Express train.

I hold easyJet in high regard because of the 'no frills' service they offer to many main airports (rather than fields miles from anywhere) and without the 'stuff you' approach to their customers that Ryanair seem to have. This flight was no different. y)

Thanks for the TR, you get what you pay for with EZY I had an OK experience with them to Budapest last year. However, I don't like the "rush" and pushing to the aircraft, this was the only downside.

Hope you had a good trip!

Luke

Thanks for this TR clarkeysntfc - am on the same flight as you next month for a long birthday weekend dancing at Berghain (infamous Berlin techno club for those who don't know/don't care..).

Glad to see Easyjet were their usual efficient selves. My friends wanted to fly Ryanair but I said no and booked us all on Easyjet instead :D

Thanks for the TR, been a while since I been easyjet but I agree, and they have improved over the years.

Speedy Boarding! Still doesn't stop everyone trying to board at once, but the staff are normally very good at boarding everyone in order.

I did use Speedy Boarding and we were the only 2 using it - however, there were still people trying to push through!

We find that the system works very well at LTN.

Just make sure you 'beeline' to the gate when it is announced so you're one of the first in to the 'standard boarding' queue, and stand by the tensabarriers nearest the door. You'll be among the first 'non-speedy boarders' on the aircraft.

I've never paid for speedy boarding and to be honest I don't see the point as there are usually never more than 30 passengers using it, leaving around 150 seats free (I think).
