BA 2965 GLA-LGW 2 FEB 14 (DOMESTIC)

Time to come home from my quick trip to Glasgow.

I had a stupidly small amount of Avios left so used them for my flight home.

My hotel (Grasshopper) was at Glasgow Central and I pottered about the city before catching the bus to the airport.

It takes about 15 minutes, and costs £6.00.

The bus has free Wi-Fi.

I always get a sense of excitement when I get to an airport...

Image

I was through security in no time, and headed for the lounge, which felt like it was miles away! I passed some tempting looking bars and restaurants, and given that I knew a Servisair lounge was waiting for me, there was a chance that I was passing up on a better place to spend time.

The lounge was OK - friendly enough staff and a darn sight brighter than many a Servisair lounge I have loitered in!

This was the snack offer. Toast was also on offer.

Toast. I ask you. And chicken soup.

Image

I had neither, going straight to the drinks where I made my usual T&G. (A dash of tonic, topped up with gin.)

Some interesting art work!

There wasn't too much flight movement at this time on a Sunday evening, the odd easyJet flight and a couple of Flybe arrivals.

Image

I chatted to another guest about the changes in travel over the years, and then it was time to go.

I was pleased that I was one of the specially painted BA "Dove" planes - 9 were repainted for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Image

Image

The plane felt new too, was fairly clean and fairly packed!

There was one drinks run, with the usual snacks on offer.

Image

An uneventful flight, an on time arrival at Gatwick, where I met my pal who had just landed from Iceland.

After going through baggage reclaim

Then going to the transit station

Then along the moving walkway.

And then to the train station.

To a queue of about 50 people queuing for tickets.

IDEA HAD i)
- Bought a ticket, at Gatwick Train Station, on my iPhone. Then picked it up straight away at the 'Collect Tickets Only' machine. RESULT!

All in all, a lovely flight...

Thanks for the two trip reports and visiting my city!

I've never heard of the Grasshoper, I would normally recommend Jury's which is nearby the station and a reasonable price.

The bus to the airport is rather handy but a local bus to Renfrew is only £2.30 so they are ripping you off for the direct/express service. (But still cheaper than a taxi). Getting the train to Paisley and then the connecting bus costs about the same, £6.

BA normally operate 24 year old 737s on the Gatwick route, on a forthcoming trip I see one of my legs has been changed to a A319, so were you flying on the new metal?

And did you get the dates mixed up, 2 Sep 14?

I think most of the Olympic BA planes are ones that used to fly for BMI. So have had a recent re-fit.

Excellent trip reports as always sealink.

What no nuts?

Thanks for the TR. As always, it's a pleasure to see the accompanying pictures.

Ps. I hope the free wifi on the bus was super fast because there's not much you can do with 15 minutes of slow internet.
