Part 1
After a fantastic 2 weeks in New Orleans, including a Bahamas cruise, it was time to head back home. Once again Burton Transport picked us up at the hotel and speedily transferred us to the airport. Our trip over had been via Atlanta but the journey home would be via Detroit and on Delta metal all the way to LHR. We were a bit worried about the routing as we had been hearing horror stories all week about the very cold weather in the North (one couple we met on the cruise had driven from Chicago to pick up the cruise as flights had all been cancelled), however despite sub zero temperatures in Detroit, the flights were running to schedule.
Checkin was a breeze and our luggage (all 4 cases, funny, it was 2 on the way out) was checked through to LHR. Made our way to the lounge which was small but very quiet with only 6 other people in it. Numerous people were trying to get access but the door staff were having none of it if you didn’t properly qualify. It was quite early so just had some coffee and bread rolls. Headed to the gate to board our B707 which was a first for me on a tail mounted engine plane but the flight was fine and the first class seats very comfortable. Flight time was just over 2.5 hours which passed quickly and we were soon landing in Detroit with 3 hours to kill before our connection to LHR. Part 2 coming up......

Looks like we did the same trip (without cruise and the Cyrpus bookends!) a few weeks later than you, and booked on the same basis as "too good to miss".

The Delta lounge qualification seems to be very complex, doesn't it? We didn't notice so much at DTW as we squirelled ourselves away a distance from the entrance, but at MSY many tried but few got in.
