Welcome to V-Flyer.

Firstly, whilst this is primarily a forum for Virgin Atlantic, and they stopped flying to Australia a long time ago; I am sure someone more knowledgable than me on the mechanic of the planes will be able to help.
I have never concerned myself with the type of engine - just as long as they work, and aare serviced correctly, I am fine. ;-)
Failing that , maybe the Virgin Australia website or Google may help.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner can be fitted with Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 or General Electric GEnx-1B engines.

The 787, and the engines, are designed with a standard electrical interface that allows engines to be 'swapped' out, even between types, in a comparatively short time frame (24 hours).

2018 figures, for the current 1277 Dreamliner orders, show 681 selected GE , 420 Rolls-Royce and 176 undecided:
