iPod or Creative Zen?

I found this section so I need your help please people,

I am thinking of soon buying a bigger MP3 player and I have decided on either an iPod Nano 2GB or the Creative Zen Micro 8GB, which I can both get for under £150.

I am attracted to the iPod Nano because some mates of mine have iPods (full, Mini, Nano) and my cousin has just got one for his birthday.

But I am put off by problems other people have had with the 'Pods which have been well documented on here and nationwide. One mate has lost two Nanos to cracked screens and another is moaning about his Nano's battery life.

I am attracted to the Zen because, although it costs slightly more, I believe that this offers better value for money over the iPod Nano and also looks good.

However no-one I know has got one so I don't know what its like and whether I should take a chance on it. I like it because I would be different from everyone else (which to be honest, I like to be sometimes[:I])

Whichever one I choose I will wait until a few weeks before Christmas before buying to hopefully get the best price[}:)] I was able to get a digital camera for half price five weeks before Xmas last year, so I want to pull something off again.

Cheers!

I would choose an iPod - IMHO they look and feel better and also integrate with the iTunes store. If you can hang on there are rumours of new/upgraded iPods due in the next few months.

Hiya!! I Have An iPod 30GB Video. However i would approve the creative ZEN more which are fairly cheaper. Apple wont allow any files downloaded from "legal" sites onto iPods, so that Apple don't loose out on any money, therefore making it more expensive to fill your iPod!! However Creative Zen is the oppersite and you can legally download music cheaper off i.e napster and put it onto your ZEN!!

Personally i would choose the ZEN!! A good all rounder!!

I'm torn[:?]

I am excited about the planned iPod upgrades that are due out soon, and if this addresses the problems my mates (and other V-Flyers)have been having, then I'll become an iSpod lol!

However, I like the idea that the Creative Zen can allow you to put 'legal' music from any site besides iTunes (unlike the iPod), and I'm not about to start paying Apple more money for something that could be a total waste of time. Also, the Zen can playback WMA tracks which means I can have double the amount of tracks compared to MP3. I believe that Apple only support MP3 files only[V]

But I've just read that Microsoft are planning an 'iPod killer' due out sometime before Christmas, so I might just hang on to my hard-earned £££ and see how this turns out. Might be able to get a great deal for under £100[}:)]

Thanks 'wood07' and 'Graham Fuller' for your advice[y]

iPod all the way for me - IMHO you get what you pay for and iPod really is the Market leader for MP3 players, i have a Nano and just abt to get a video iPod too :D

You can get reconditioned iPods direct from Apple also, i know they had some very good offers on the mini iPod last week, just thought this might be handy if your looking for a stop gap until xmas etc

Its Fine Great For Helping!!!

Just Think by the time you come to buying an MP3 there will be a lot more on the Market that may suit you better.

Zen, provide a good value package. But some see Zen as a cheaper alternative to iPod's which in many cases they can be.

But just remember they both basically do the same thing so whichever you can find the cheapest will be the best.

I don't know what the quality of the Zen is like, and could really only talk about iPod.

But in my case iPod is great and is always getting better providing a good service. However they do seem to be a bit like the phone industry realeasing new models instantly after another, but i think Zen is the same.

Goiod Luck In Your Choice[y]

iPod Nano vs Zen - upside for Nano is that it's flash memory based and not a hard disk based unit, plus it's slimmer and a more attractive device. Downside for Nano is price per track, battery life and the format / DRM issues (not a problem if your burning from CD)

Once again, thanks to those who replied.

I have ended up buying a Samsung D600 phone with a 1GB microSD card so I can listen to my music tracks.

This was because I decided a few weeks ago that I wanted a new phone and realised that I wouldn't be able to buy two things at once, so I decided on this one to take advantage of its MP3 capabilities.

I may still get an MP3 player soon and if I do it will most probably be the Creative Zen Micro.

Thanks again for all of your advice, expertise and knowhow [y]

hmmm interesting choice Alex, I have the Sony W800i phone with the walkman/mp3 player thingy, which is ok for a few tunes but couldn't ever just use it as my own mp3 player, but guess it depends how much music etc you listen too.

If you do decide to get an seperate mp3 player, I would still urge you to conisder some form of iPod, the new ones just annouced (see preiffer post) are excellent and even the re-conditioned one I bought t'other half (see my topic also) is top draw and well worth a look at if cash is a bit tight.

Since my last post on this thread I have ended up continuing to use my MP3 player for music because I found that the D600 phone does not like playing multimedia and uses up a lot of battery power.

However my trusty MP3 is now on its way out cos its developed a habit of switching off at random times (even on full battery) so I have decided to buy a 4GB iPod Nano.

Reason being is that I like the improvements that Apple have made to it and I feel the 'new' Nano has addressed my worries of it breaking easily because of its Aluminium case.

Am heading off to the Apple Store in Manchester tomorrow to get my hands on one, ut I don't know which colour to get? I like the looks of the black, silver and red ones.

Go for the 4GB Sony NWS-706 with noise cancelling headphones. I bought one last week and it's great.

It's also £10 cheaper than last week [:(!]

I've heard Sony MP3s are supposed to be rubbish after a few months or so. Although have to say they make excellent TV's (our old Sony lasted 12 years and we changed it for a flat-screen Sony)
