Just thought I would say that I have just bought for t'other half a re-conditioned 30g Video ipod form Apple for £143 (43% saving + free delivery), and it is excellent, looks like new, comes with a 1yr warrenty too. I was unsure what condition it would be etc, but I am very impressed.

here is the site, just thought it might be useful if anybody is looking for a cheap iPod for training/t'other halfs etc etc, the deals are changing all the time too.

Neil:)

Thanks - that's a good deal. I've bought refurbed products before and have always had a good deal with no problems, even though they run a slightly higher risk than brand new.

Another option, if travelling to the US is to buy locally ... Apple 30GB iPod Video Black in US = $299 or £166 whereas in the UK = £219, v. the refurbed price of £143.

Good saving Attitude23[y]

Whenever I go out shopping, I always aim to buy during sales (call me sad if you like) because you get great products at great prices.

I also look out for good deals too like this one. I'll remember this one, cheers!

Plus VAT and Import Duty when you bring it back into the UK though. :D;)[8D]

No probs - to be honest, Im not a sale fan, normally last seasons clothes/stuff etc, but I do like a good bargain when I can find one, and I just couldn't not buy this for only £143, proper bargain me thinks.

Don't forget the limit for goods brought in outside the EU is £145.

Since the iPod in concern costs £166 in the US then you have to declare this at customs upon arrival then pay the necessary VAT and Import Tax fees as punishment from Gordon Brown[n]

Oh yes, we've all been totally honest and declared our iPods, laptops, camcorders etc to swell the coffers of our respective states [:w]

But it is very serious Slinky, I hope nobody on this site would ever dream of trying to rip off the tax man and our poor government ;) [}:)] lol

For every Ipod/Laptop/Camcorder that doesn't go through the "Red Channel" there's another poor pensioner not getting their hip operation, another community losing its police officer, another teacher leaving the profession becuase they can't afford to live... need I go on.... all you smugglers should be ashamed of yourselves![:o)]

Thank heavens for the week dollar keeping more US goods under the threshold!

Mind you considering the long waiting lists for hip ops and other surgery on the NHS as well as having to pay ridiculously high taxes I doubt that taking your electronics through the 'Red Channel' will help their cause much. People have got more money going out than money going in.

I don't think they can afford to staff the red channel anyway.
I always stick my head around the corner to see if a kindly soul wants to take my taxes, but I never see anyone, and not wanting to bother anyone on their tea break I go down green.

Your such a kind hearted soul, what with not wanting to bother the very hard working customs staff and all, well done PVGSLF, gold star for you:D

Just doing my bit for the poor over worked airport staff.

In fact here's an idea.... why not shift incoming customs staff onto outgoing security checks. After all, you never see anyone complaining about understaffing of the customs channels ;)

Nice idea - if they don't mind switching employer. [:?]
