i'm typing this while logged on to the net on my new iPod touch. It's a bit diddly but what a fantastic device. It'l be better than carrying around my iBook on trips.

I still can't decide if I should buy one next month. I do like my Sony NWA808 though.

It's on my shopping list. I've already noted down the address of the Apple store in San Francisco [^]

Careful not to update it then as it will get locked again. This is the only reason I got the touch. I can't bothered hacking Apple products, thats the reason I got them in the first place.

I don't plan to update it, although we believe we have a future proof solution.

OK, so I'm off to the Apple Store on 5th Avenue to buy the Touch ... any one have a view on whether I should wait for news of a 30GB or more version first? I guess it's getting a bit late for Apple to revamp them for Christmas now?

Go for it now, will be a while yet before they update them.

Hmm. I'm pretty hopeful that a 32GB will be out within months.

Flash memory prices for that size chip have come down dramatically (even making 64GB an option, perhaps) - as a result, my card's not coming out until it hits 32GB+ Without that capacity, it's as useless as an 8GB nano to me; I don't want to have to "choose" which songs I want to take with me, I want them all.

Read an article about some gentlemen in Auckland that mod-ed the hell out of his iPhone. Upped the storage to around ~28GB and had dual SIMs IIRC. Some folks have a bunch of time :)

I would not expect a 32GB model to be out before the new year. In the US, Apple focus on the Thanksgiving shopping season, so if it's not announced now, it's not going to happen in 2007.

Traditionally they update products 4 to 6 months after introduction, or in the case of the Apple TV within a few weeks to add a larger hard drive. grrrrr

My guess would be no earlier than Feb/Mar 2008.

Yes those were my thoughts but I deleted loads of podcasts and videos today and now I'm at 14.5 GB of music ... so ... maybe I will [:p]

Unless you added a bigger HDD yourself :-)

It's Flash based memory, so you could probably take it apart and put another in.

People,

I need help!!

Some of my tracks when copied from itunes stop suddenly mid tune, then after some silence it moves to the next track. This happens every time you play the track. If I delete it and reimport the mp3, it works fine, so the copy on my PC is ok.

Anyone have any ideas? Is it getting corrupted somehow? It's done it on mp3s I encoded from CD and files bought from itunes.

Thanks for any help! [oo]

Ah, so I bought one - Apple store on 5th Avenue was absolutely heaving but I shuffled through the crowd and came away the happy owner of a 16GB Touch - even better my credit card noted an exchange rate of $2.0651 to the Pound! Then, having realised I'd left another credit card in the bar of the St Regis (damn that second Martini [:I]) I head back to my hotel to play.

What a great piece of technology. Straight on to the internet via the hotel WiFi and browsing V-Flyer and loads of other stuff. Takes me a little time to get with the tapping though. Now back to home tonight to sync. with my Mac.

Has anyone tried adding a microphone and headset for VOIP?

Had a little play with one last night....It has the same interface as the I-Phone, yes it sets the new standard. What I am looking for however is a keyboard for it, my Nokia has a keyboard that can plug into the bottom of it making life a lot easier, anyone know of something like that for the I-Phone/Touch [?]

I'm off to SJU via JFK in a couple of weeks. I will be connecting from VS to DL at JFK.

What are my chances of picking up an iPod touch from Duty Free in T3 at JFK? Does the Delta terminal have a decent electronics store which can help me out?

Thanks in advance for any help.

No they don't do anything like that as you might as well get a laptop then, or another device. I find the onscreen keyboard pretty good and can type emails fairly quickly on it now.
