SSL Broken!

Not Travel Technology but I am sure this will be of interest to most.

No malicious intent but if they can do it so can others.

Surprising how inventive people are for finding new uses for the PS3!

Just a couple of things...

It looks like they were able to create a fake certificate, not break the SSL algorithms or am I reading that wrong ?

Also Nividia is working on a number of computers that use it's GPU's to form clusters to tackle problems that are stretching the current crop of super computers.

You are correct Dave, but the possibilities if this capability is replicated by the evil hacker community could be very damaging viz. 'https' would no longer be able to be relied upon as secure when conducting financial transactions the way it is today so something needs to be done to remove this weak MD5 cryptographic algorithm vulnerability.

I understand what your saying Bazz and yes you are right, once the trick is out of the bag it is only a matter of time before someone replicates it and then we are going to be in a world of hurt.
