Using a mobile in US

I've so far managed to avoid having a mobile capable of working in the US, but now alas I have one! So, my uk number is 07800 xxx xxx ; what would a US-based caller, with a US phone have to dial to get my number? Would they dial 11 44 7800 xxx xxx? What would someone in the US with a UK mob dial to get my phone?

Thanks.

Dialling from the US they'd dial 011 44 7800 XXX XXX. Same answer for both mobiles.

They would dial +44 7xxx though from a mobile as mobile phones don't need the international dial access code so they would just replace the 11 with a + sign.

It would be the same for someone in the US with a UK mobile too to dial you, so they can also dial +44 7xxx

That's why it's always useful to enter all your mobile phone contacts starting with +44 (dropping the first 0), that way your numbers will always work where ever you and your mobile are, the +44 format will still work when your mobile is in the UK too.

Based on my own experience of having both US and UK phones:

US to UK: 011 44 7800 XXXXXX - My US phone will not send messages to the UK if I type the number as +44, it will only accept 011 44

UK (in US) to UK: +44 7800 XXXXXX

That's whay I always save numbers in the international format. Saves having to edit it out there.
