I have to get a laptop for one of my daughters; and need recommendations for a good make/model? Basic rqts are;

Lightweight (not too physically large).
Good screen resolution.
CD/DVD player.
Good battery life.
Decent processor.

Don't want a netbook!

A very quick look at PC World throws this one up

I'd go to PC world / currys / dixons (but arn't they really all the same company?) and have a look at some physical models then you can assess size etc etc

Then go home and order on line from a company like DABS

I have a Toshiba L300 20D and it does me well. PC world price (MArch 2009) was £380 but I got it for £300 by ordering on line and going to a store to collect it.

This might help: http://laptopadvisor.blogspot.com/2009/ ... ptops.html

I'd agree to take a look in store though as you'll get a feel for how heavy (or not!) they are and order at home online.

Ok, I know you said not a netbook, but try looking at the Asus EEE1201N

It's a laptop hiding inside a rather large netbook 12 inch screen, dual core proc.
