I am thinking about getting a laptop very soon and I was wondering if I could take it on-board my flight?

If I can is there anyway to 'get power' from the aircraft aswell as my battery?

Also I have heard people talking about you having to leave your laptop on while in the airport? Is this true? Are there any other 'rules' for taking laptops?
