Video killed the radio star?

There's an awful lot of speculation about what's going to be announced at next week's press only event in San Jose.

Current guessing is pointing towards a Video ipod, with a much smaller form factor than the existing iPod photos.

Although it could be a PowerBook/Mac announement, I'd suggest that nobody buys an existing model until next week - just in case

If I remember, wasn't it the first video on MTV?

And to be extra sad, if I recall, the keyboard palyer was none other than Hans Zimmer, the famous movie composer.

Thanks,
Richard

They've done it - The Video iPod has arrived

The new iPod boasts up to 20 hours of battery life(5), five hours more than before. Plus, you get a bigger display and one more iPod color Ñ sleek black. But hereÕs the kicker: At under half an inch thin, the new 30GB iPod takes up about 45 percent less room than the original iPod. Even the new 60GB model is 10 percent thinner than the fourth-generation 20GB iPod. More features in less space? Sounds like iPod.

It looks fantastic, but given the problems with the Nano, I think I will hold off a few months before getting one. [:I]

BTW, is anyone else having difficulty watching the TV ad with U", that is linked from the site? I keep getting an error in Quicktime and having to restart firefox.

Again the silly UK pricing strikes....

£219 or $299. I think I will get mine in November in LAS.

Thanks,
Richard

I'm doing the same, although it's not that hideous.

If you add sales tax onto the 299, and take an average C.Card rate of 1.7 (which is what I got yesterday for a US$ purchase with MBNA), then it's around £190 in the US.

Agreed, it's still more expensive over here, but it's not like it used to be (I remember PowerBooks being £1799 or $2149 not too long ago [:0])

.......but I'm just bringing this iPod back home after taking it with me from the UK (such a shame to throw an iPod box away though as it's a work of art by itself) unless someone can think of a good place to hide it.......[:0]

For those of you wanting too take advantage of buying an iPod in the U.S.A., order from Outpost.com or Amazon.Com on the day before you leave the UK, and select 1 or 2 day shipping, and enter your Hotel address.

It should then arrive on the 2nd day of your vacation.

You avoid local Sales Tax that way. Postage is normally around $7

And if you really want too keep the box return it empty for around $10 via the US Mail on their 6 week option via sea.

I wish someone would fix that website.. the link to the brochure is screwed. And I want to see what they sell, as I'll be passing through in a couple of weeks... *sigh*

Apple Store at the Mall at Millenia, Orlando has none on display but there is a guy walking around with one who let me have a play - it's a nice gadget and the screen looks good, but I couldn't convince myself to buy one. I only just got the 60gig Photo, so it seemed a bit silly to get another one!

They had the 30gig white models in stock (no idea why they don't open two or three to put them on display!).

Also, they didn't have the new iMacs out either. I thought Apple were always pretty quick with getting the new releases out on diplay in the stores.

I guess the screens are on a par with the older Arcadia screens, but Arcadia is definitely not as cool![8D]
