It looks like Virgin have reduced their taxes after bumping them up during Covid. Tampa route now showing as £793 in Upper Class (I paid just shy of £1000 for my flight in January ‘23). I’m assuming they won’t refund the difference?

I don’t want to cancel and rebook as I used a Companion voucher and these take time to be re-added. Plus Virgin haven’t charged me all of the miles, which is probably worth more than the £200 difference in taxes!!

Ummm that’s a good spot. I’m in exactly the same position as yourself. Our April costs using a companion voucher too was £998.46 each. So now there’s a drop of £200. Good for some but bad for us.

Sadly, absolutely no chance of VS refunding the difference. If the taxes had increased then hopefully existing bookings would be except so that’s the chance we all take. :-(

I'm not sure what is going on with this.

I have just taken advantage of it with a booking to Orlando for next November. So generally for the US taxes from LHR are back down to £799. They went down to £899 for a couple of weeks after black Friday. I am not sure if this is now a perm change or connected to some of the offers they have on at the moment for new years sales etc. I won't look a gift horse in the mouth for now!

If you do a date change on a reward flight do the taxes and charges get recalculated and the reduction reimbursed ?

No, they will just charge you the change fee (unless you are AU).

I changed my reward flight 3 days ago from Orlando to Tampa + changed dates and was given a refund. My return flight remained from Orlando with no date change so refund was proportional.
